Free Tabby Kittens

When shopping for free tabby kittens you’ll usually have a lot of options. Be sure to take your time and pick out the healthiest cat you can find.

Whether adopting a tabby kitten from an animal shelter or an individual that you find in the newspaper, there are certain things that you should definitely keep in mind. Make sure you take your time and choose a healthy kitten from the litter. And keep in mind the supplies you’ll need and expenses you’ll have to face.

Tabbies are not an actual breed of cat. Tabby refers to the striped coat pattern that a large percentage of domestic cats exhibit - including many pure-breed cats. Often times the tabby pattern is noticeable only when examined closely or in the right light. The only cats that don’t have a tabby pattern in their coat are solid white colored cats.

When most people talk about tabbies, they’re speaking of the classic Mackerel variety. You’ll notice a distinctive “M” on their foreheads. And you’ll find a lot of calico cats with patches or tabby stripes.

When you go out looking for free tabby kittens, make sure the whole litter looks healthy. Even one sick looking kitten could mean that the whole litter is sick. Sometimes the weakest kitten will show signs of illness before the others. It’s also important to check the health of the Mother cat if possible.

A healthy kitten will have bright and clear eyes. There should be no mucous (wet or dried) around their ears, eyes or nose. Their coat should be well groomed and free of bald spots and sores.

It’s not a good idea to adopt a kitten before they’re at least 6 weeks old. They need that period of time to get nourishment and immunity from their Mother and to learn how to be a well-adjusted cat.

When you pick up a kitten, you want one that doesn’t continue to struggle in your arms and try to get away (initial resistance is fine). He/she should eventually relax and purr in your arms. And I would try to stay away from a real defensive kitten that fights and hisses at you. This may be a problem that he or she won’t grow out of.

Will you be away from your cat all day at work? You might want to consider getting two kittens at the same time that can grow up together and keep each other company while you’re away.

Although you won’t have to pay to get your free kitten, remember that there will still be expenses. You’ll need to buy certain basic pet supplies - litter box, food and water bowls, toys, etc. And you’ll also need to take them to the veterinarian for an overall check-up that includes tests and shots.

When shopping for free tabby kittens just remember to take your time and make sure you pick out the healthiest kitten you can find. You’ll carry this decision with you for many years to come.
