Free Puppies In Illinois

You can find free puppies in Illinois, but be sure to use caution and common sense. And stay away from any litters that contain sick puppies.

Free puppies in Illinois are really no different from free puppies in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana or any other part of the country. You’ll find available certain types of puppies that will make excellent pets. But when shopping for a new dog there are certain safety and health issues to always keep in mind.

First of all, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any pure-bred dogs available for free. If you see ads for free Pitbull, Boxer, Golden Retriever, Chihuahua, Beagle or any other type of pure-breed puppies then proceed with caution - they may really be mixed breed dogs. Which are perfectly all right. Or they may be setting you up for a scam, especially if these puppies are to be shipped to you from out of the country. There are quite a few scams around these days of free pure-bred puppies from overseas locations such as Africa.

You’ll usually find mixed breed dogs available for free. And mixed breed dogs usually make excellent pets, in some cases better pets than pure-bred dogs. Just use caution when shopping for free puppies. Try to maintain your objectivity and don’t allow yourself to fall for the first adorable litter of puppies you set your eyes on.

Examine the premises and make sure they look fairly clean and sanitary. And look at the litter. If there’s even one sick-looking dog, then you should go elsewhere - the whole litter could very likely be sick too. Many times the smallest and weakest puppy will show signs of illness first and then the others begin showing signs of illness later.

A healthy puppy will be free of any mucous (wet or dried) around their ears, nose or eyes. They will walk straight without a limp. And their eyes should be bright, clear and point straight ahead.

You might also want to avoid any overly aggressive puppy - one that continually nips, bites and growls at you. Many times puppies don’t ever outgrow this behavior and will be a problem for you as long as you own them. Likewise you might want to avoid any overly shy puppy - one that hides in the corner and looks defeated. Initial shyness is to be expected, but they should eventually come out and want to greet and play with you after a little bit.

Although you won’t have to spend any money to adopt your free puppy, you should be prepared for the expenses that go along with adopting any new dog:

  • A visit to the veterinarian. This will very likely include a round of shots and worm eradication and prevention.
  • Pet supplies. This will include food and water bowls, puppy food, collar and leash and other odds and ends.

When shopping for free puppies in Illinois or any other place be sure to keep these things in mind and take your time while picking out a dog. This is a decision that you’ll have to live with for quite a long time - for better or worse.
